Hart founded Melford Capital Ltd in 2002, since when he has focused primarily on investment and development opportunities in the Central London real estate market. Between 2006 and 2008 Hart was also a non-executive director of BKLF Ltd, a substantial UK leisure real estate fund.

In 1996 Hart co-founded Gilbran Group Ltd, a specialist investor & developer of automotive property, which he sold to management in 2002. Between 1991 to 1997 Hart was a Director of Arcadia Land plc a property company, which he co-founded and which focused on high-yield opportunities in the 90's recession. Between 1989-1990 he was an investment agent, first at Brian Cooper & Co, then Hart Lockhart Smith.
