Principles

Melford's management team organises itself around the following principles:

1. Integrity

We believe in conducting business honestly.

2. Principals, not just principles

Melford is 100% owned by its partners, on a widely distributed basis. All of the partners have a substantial portion of their personal wealth invested in the business and co-invested alongside our investors' funds.

3. Nimble

We are a small, adaptable and innovative group. We think this gives us an advantage over larger asset allocators. For us, growth means an increased personal share in the funds we manage, not simply increasing assets under management.

4. Entrepreneurial

Our culture is entrepreneurial, placing emphasis on people and ideas ahead of plans and structures. We are calculated risk-takers and our investments are structured to reward or punish us for pricing and managing risk in the search for superior returns.

5. Disciplined

Being boutique and entrepreneurial does not mean that we eschew all process. We understand that rigorous analysis and strong financial discipline lie at the heart of what we do and we have organised ourselves to ensure that we have strong, independent, oversight and good corporate governance.

6. Contrarian

Over the last twenty years, we have built a series of boutique property businesses each specialising in a particular market sector or niche. All have been aimed at making deeply researched and considered, but nonetheless contrarian investments against prevailing market orthodoxy.
